dazzlin Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 We have X reg mk2 Galaxy, which left standing for 3 days has a flat battery! This is not the first time that this has happened. We (my husband) had to jump start the car numerous times during the cold spell, which has resulted in the CD changer not working and we can't get our CD's out. So replaced the battery, thought our problems were solved. NOT, hubby fixed the passenger window, found 1 wire broken another frayed. (Found out how to do it from this brilliant forum). Could this have been the cause, NO. Hubby replaced the passenger door mirror, (which i broke off) had to wire it in, not sure if it has ben done correctly) but the mirror moves. There was a mobile phone in the car once, father in-law removed the glove comparment bulb, he had the car before us and it went flat on him too. we have removed the CD changer. Can any one out there offer us some help, I have read on another forum that the mobile phone can drain a battery, if this is possible, how do we (my husband) go about removing it? Thanking you all in advance. Quote

The battery should show 12 volts plus - the alternator should output at 14 volts plus. If either of these is wrong then the alternator is suspect. There could be a drain somewhere so if the battery and alternator check out ok then you need to find any potential drain. The mobile phone would have to have a connection to the power to so that needs to be found and disconnected. I would also check interior lights, footwell lights etc to see if something is causing a drain. BJ Quote
seatkid Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 If you have illuminated vanity mirrors in the window shades, check those - a cracked plastic surround means they often dont switch off when you close them. Quote
dazzlin Posted March 25, 2010 Author Report Posted March 25, 2010 Checked the vanity lights, no sign of creaking, the interior lights are all off, looked in last night. Next step to check altenator, (scuse spelling). Hope to have some news soon. Quote
shahed Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 Hmm, Check your leads HT leads I think which run through a black plastic fuse box. If you get a power surge it heats up the plastic box and melts it causing damage to the metal connectors & leads. You end up with no battery charge. I am sure there is something on the site about it. hope it helps Quote
zorgman Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 your alternator can cause this fault had it loads of times even tho its charging the diodes internal can leak putting load on the battery, try disconnecting it overnight, doubt its moble phone as it should be ign switched, Quote
